How to choose my Internet solution?

Choose your Internet solution

Are you looking for the best Internet service for your company, but can't choose from the numerous options available to you?

Don't panic!

Let us advise you on the best solution to suit the needs of your company and your employees!

There are many Internet access technologies available today for businesses, and finding your way through all this confusing terminology can be daunting.

Here's a quick overview of the different terms you may come across when you are looking for information on an Internet package:

Guaranteed speed / non-guaranteed speed

Some Internet packages include "guaranteed speeds", what's that?

Guaranteed speed means that you will always have the speed you signed up for, regardless of the number of users, or the way you use your Internet access - your operator provides a constant Internet access speed under all circumstances.

On the other hand, "non-guaranteed" speed means that you will get up to the maximum speed you signed up for, but your actual speed will depend on how you use your Internet access, as well as the number of users connected. If you have a large number of users who make heavy use of your Internet access, your connection will be worse than if only one person were connected just to check their emails.

Symmetric / asymetric speed

A package with symmetric speed means that you will have equal "upload" and "download" speeds. What?

The "download" rate is the speed that data is received on the line: loading an Internet page, downloading files, viewing videos, etc.

The "upload" rate is the speed that data is sent to the line: sending an email, sharing files, saving documents online, etc.

If you choose a symmetric speed package, your users will benefit from the same power for their downloads and uploads, unlike an asymmetric speed package, where the download speed is higher than the upload speed.

Recovery Time Guarantee (RTG)

The Recovery Time Guarantee, as its name suggests, represents the recovery time guaranteed by your operator in the event of an interruption of the Internet service. Depending on your business, and how important your Internet connection is in your daily life, you should pay particular attention to this aspect when choosing your solution.

Now that you are familiar with the technical jargon, let's take a look at your needs:

  • What services does your company need: phone, fax, access to computer servers, application sharing, large file transfers, etc. ?
  • How many employees will be using the same connection?
  • Can you operate with a power failure longer than 4 hours? Are you open 24 hours a day or 24/7?

Your company's business activity will be the main decision-making factor in choosing your Internet package.

What are the alternatives?

ADSL and VDSL packages are generally recommended for small businesses that do not have a critical need for the Internet. They are ideal solutions for accessing the Internet, as well as VoIP services, at very attractive prices.

Both ADSL and VDSL offers asymmetric speeds, which are not guaranteed and without any recovery time guarantee, with quick and easy activation.

SDSL packages are almost exclusively used by companies. They have the advantage of providing a symmetrical and guaranteed Internet connection at guaranteed speeds, and usually have a guaranteed recovery time.

The reliability of SDSL access allows companies to take advantage of collaborative features that boost their productivity and that of their employees: large file transfers, IP phones, videoconferencing, etc.

Fibre Optic

Very High Speed, and therefore Fibre Optic, has become a major factor for companies: it enables new ways of communicating and the effective implementation of digital transformation in companies.

There are 2 types of Fibre Optic packages for companies:

  • FTTH Fibre Optic

The FTTH Pro package is a fibre optic link designed for Professionals. It meets the market's needs for very high speed access for human-sized structures such as very small to medium-sized businesses.

This package is ideal for high bandwidth requirements for non-critical applications by offering an unsecured throughput of up to 500 Mbps for upload and download.

It does not include a recovery time guarantee in the event of a power outage and is therefore not recommended for critical sites despite the reliability of Fibre access compared to ADSL or VDSL access.

  • Dedicated Fibre Optic

Dedicated Fibre Optic packages allow companies to enjoy guaranteed symmetric speeds of up to 1GB. They are perfectly tailored to critical sites with a very high bandwidth requirement.
